Model 102 1935 - 1979
One of the early ‘mass’ production iterations of British Seagull was the Model 102. Originally designed under the Marston Seagull, this engine transversed through four distinctive eras as a British Seagull engine and the Model 102 sat in the range for over 40 years, most notably helping the Allies in World War 2.
Model 102 Engines
Production began from as early 1935 as a Marston Seagull. Production continued under the British Seagull brand as the Model 102 ‘A’ series engines. Mass produced for Ally military use in World War 2; many iterations of this engine exist through to 1956. The Model 102 ‘A’ aeries engine production stopped when the Forty Minus was introduced in 1955, followed closely by the Century 100 in 1956.
The Model 102 ‘T’ series engines (from 1956-1966) took advantage of technology improvements and were supplied for the next 11 years until the Forty Featherweight was introduced in 1967, and Silver Century in 1966.
In 1967 the Model 102 ‘W’ series offerings were produced for a further six years and later, from 1973, the, Model 102 ‘E’ series engines with the state-of-the-art electronic distributor, became the last variant.
